Sales Networking

Sales Professionals are committed to building their network.  We all know Linkedin and Facebook as social media platforms.  Twitter has gained new exposure due to the Presidency.  Should we network on Alignable, Startup Nation, or Opportunity?

How do you decide who to target or what platform to build your network?

I suggest making a list of your target customers by market segment.  Review the client's technology, geography target, resources, expertise, and pricing methodology according to economy of scale.

After gathering data, work with your demand, supply, finance and technical resources to integrate this data into your plan.

Break this task up daily into a work package or sprint goal.

Simply put, after this task is complete, you will not only have meaningful data, cross functional teamwork, but an action plan to answer to question of how to decide who to target and what platform to build your network.

Do the best you can until you know better.  Then when you know better, do better. #MayaAngelou

Real Estate

Since the economy has improved post 9/11, many people are considering purchasing real estate.   Do purchase a property if you have completed your due diligence.  Many folks buy a property that they qualified for according to the banks.  Don't forget about putting aside 6 month's mortgage payments and taking out a home equity line of credit as soon as possible.   A HELOC can protect you in the event of job loss.  Once it is established, you can utilize it to draw against in poor economic times.  It can be used for home improvements and is a tax deduction. It can be used to accelerate yout mortgage pay down.  You only pay when you draw sgainst it.  This loan can be used again and again over the length of the loan as you pay it off.   If you have a $25,000 limit and use 10k, once you pay the 10k off, the entire 25k remains available again.  Don't rely on the banks to ensure you have enough money to maintain your property.   Rely instead on savings and a revolving HELOC.

Green Technology

There will be a presentation by John Regalbuto, Professor UIC about Green Technology.
John comments that in the last few years NSF (National Science Foundation) has been at the lead in promoting a new cellulosic biofuels paradigm:  green gasoline.  Recent advances in catalysis and biocatalysis hold great promise for new pathways to the mass production of next generation non-food hydrocarbon biofuels: gasoline, diesel and jet fuel mass produced from switchgrass, forest waste, and agricultural residue.  The potential advantages of hydrocarbon production from lignocelluosic feedstocks will be discussed vis-à-vis cellulosic ethanol, the newest pathways will be outlined, and recent concern about lifecycle greenhouse gas emissions from biofuel production will be addressed.
When & Where:

Stay or Go?

I recently saw on TV that College Illinois Prepaid Tuition program is underfunded.  It suffered a deficit due to a miscalculation in the percent rise of college costs and the interest predicted on investments.  The knee jerk reaction of many was to remove their funds before the program collapsed.  I am invested in this fund and chose to remove my funds as well.  It is my belief the fund is a great opportunity to send your children to college.  One must weigh and balance the opportunity risks.  The cost of the risk is the opportunity foregone.  At consideration is possibly losing a great deal of money, or the possibility of a locked in tuition.  While there are more details that are left out, this is the essential choice.  I am a calculated risk taker and chose to place the funds in a differently managed risk.  One key factor was the reputation of the management and their track record.  My gut instinct is that College Illinois will pull out of this fiasco, but I made a more conservative choice.  The question I ask you is this:  What have you done today to ensure your reputation is the highest in your industry?  What metrics have you employed to garner your track record?  Have you taken a look at your business or personal action plans lately?  Are your customer's in the process of trying to decide whether to stay or go?

Change

What you thought before has let to every choice you have made, and this adds up to you at this moment.  If you want to change who you are physically, mentally and spiritually, you will have to change what you think.  ~ Dr. Patrick Gentempo

Direction

There are more flattened animals on the highway not taking a direction or hustling!
